AmChamAdvocacy: Innovation Visit to Brno with Karel Havlicek

Advocacy

What is certain in times of uncertainty?

If you have the best technology, you succeed.

AmCham Czechia spent several hours in Brno with Karel Havlicek of ANO aligning the aims of his updated hashtagTheCountryForTheFuture with our own priorities (which will be delivered in an updated Letter on Innovation to a new government in October).

We ranged over wide field of topics and industries: nuclear energy, STEM immigration, land use (planning, zoning, and permitting), defense/security, microscopy, medical technologies, technical universities, and digitization of the public sector. We had many ideas in common, which is not surprising giving the amount of time we have travelled together visiting production facilities over the past eight years.

AmCham has one strategic axiom: the consistent creation of new advanced technologies requires a critical mass of current advanced technologies that are produced and developed in Czechia. Our aim is to achieve that critical mass... tomorrow, if possible.

That will require Big Bets that rapidly increase the amount of resources invested into the development of those technologies. It does not matter if the resources are spent on basic science or applied science. It does not matter if the business is a major global player or a start-up. What matters is the potential importance of the technology, and whether the science, technology, and product development deliver a commercial product that generates the revenue that can be reinvested into the next generation of technologies.

Can Honeywell help lift Czechia to the top of the global aviation industry? Can Thermo Fisher Scientific put Czechia at the center of the global semiconductor and medical technologies industry? Can LINET Group SE sit at the center of a thriving medical technology cluster that makes Czechia's faculty hospitals the leading innovators in Europe in the application of AI to healthcare?

We think yes. And we are working to turn the possible into reality.
