AmCham advocates urgent resolution to land use crisis

 On September 4th, AmCham sent a letter to the leaders of the Chamber of Deputies urging a long-term solution to the crisis in land-use planning, starting with the passage of a construction act that could settle the controversial permitting process. This construction act has now experienced three major reforms in less than a decade, and the concern is politics is getting in the way of a predictable, and effective process that investors can expect to remain stable for more than one election. 

The letter was sent to Speaker Okamura and deputy speakers Jiri Bartak, Jan Skopecek, Patrik Nacher, and Barbora Urbanova. 

Our main concern is not the legislation, but how it improves reality. That will take effective implementation between the national government, regional governments, and local municipalities. The partisan passage of a parliamentary proposal that did not undergo the usual legislative commentary process raises the possibility that the act will face a constitutional challenge, and resistance during the implementation process. Our hope is that the democratic parties can achieve a compromise that will allow the development we need to solve the housing availability and pricing crisis and attract the innovative investments we need to increase the GDP and raise salaries.
